Description: Djilpin Arts’ Gapu Series is a collection of limited edition prints that commenced in 2007 under the guidance of Basil Hall, from Basil Hall Editions. A current total of nine unique series of prints have been editioned to date. Each series comprises prints by a number of Djilpin artists and the medium varies from etchings, woodblock prints, silkscreen and screenprints. Gapu – Water – is the inspiration behind much of the work produced. The continuing collaboration between artists from Djilpin’s Ghunmarn Culture Centre and Basil Hall Editions encourages new and emerging artists as well as established artists to experiment with a variety of print mediums. This work is part of Gapu Series IX which was undertaken in 2019. The etching is printed on Hahnemuhle 300gsm etching paper on two plates.

Artist Bio: Brett was born in Katherine and came to Barunga and Beswick when he was young. David Blanasi, didjeridu master player and renowned artist, taught Brett to paint. As well as painting on bark and canvas, Brett also carves and paints buffalo horn, didjeridus and turtle shells. His recurrent themes are the rainbow serpent, mermaids and Mimi spirits.
