The potent vocal tradition of the Songmen is a testament to the songs and their singers, to their power longevity and relevance, even in a changing world.

Since 2002, for the Walking With Spirits festival, Songmen have travelled to Beswick once more to maintain the ancient campfires, and have collaborated in performances that are captured on CD and DVD and are available from Djilpin Arts.

Muyngarnbi can be ordered for $30 plus postage $5 (Aust); $8 (O/S). Use this form to place an order and we’ll return your message.

Following the success of his debut album Sunshine After Rain (Best Album, 2006 Indigenous Music Awards), Tom E. Lewis brings together four Arnhem Land Songmen in a release unlike anything heard before in Indigenous music. This startling work comes with a bonus 30minute behind-the-scenes DVD.

In a ground breaking stylistic development, four senior ceremony men have relinquished their didjeridu to work with gyspy, rhumba, jazz and rock influences that provide a dynamic contemporary platform for traditional formats. Ross Hannaford lends his legendary guitar style, and together with Tom Lewis (rhythm guitar), Michael Hohnen (double bass), and Tony Floyd (drums, percussion), Songmen Roy Ashley, Micky Hall, Victor Hood and Jimmy Wesan breathe new life into these songs from the dust.
